Lisa Braxton's 'The Talking Drum' selected as a Shelf Unbound's 2020 Indie Book Award Winner


Psi Omega member Lisa Braxton is the author of The Talking Drum.


The book was recently selected as a 2020 Indie Book Award Winner out of more than 300 entries landing her the 6th place title.


Inspired by her parents, the central focus of the book is a redevelopment project in the fictional place of Bellport, Massachusetts. The ubran transformation expands as the dreams and relationships of three couples are impacted by the project.


In an interview with Shelf Unbound, Braxton said The Talking Drum is the book that let her "fulfill the dream of writing a novel."



The book has been hailed as "an engaging, informative, timely read," by Inanna Publications and Education Inc.'s publicist and marketing manager Renee Knapp.


The Talking Drum was also the winner of the 2020 Outstanding Literary Award for the National Association of Black Journalists.
