For 95 years, the Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has been dedicated to serving the Greater Boston community.
In 1932, Psi Omega Chapter presented its first scholarship award of $75.
In August 2005, the Boston Pearl Foundation, Inc. was established by the members of the Psi Omega Chapter as a vehicle to expand the scope of scholarly assistance and community enrichment available in Boston.
The mission of the foundation is to advance and support education by providing underserved students with the financial assistance needed to attend college and support charitable community programming in the greater Boston area.
Since then, more than $200,000 has been awarded to deserving college students from the Greater Boston area with awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
Applications are now open for the 2021 Scholarship.
Applicants must:
Be a Massachusetts resident
Identify as a student of African descent, including but not limited to students that identify as Black, African-American, Afro-Carribbean, Afro-Latino or having any Afro-diasporic roots
Be in their senior year of high school
Be applying for Fall 2021 admission into an accredited four-year-university
Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
All students who meet these requirements can apply regardless of gender.
The deadline to submit applications is March 14, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.
