For the annual MLK Day of Service, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc members join together to volunteer and serve the community side-by-side to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year, the Psi Omega chapter will collect and sort donations for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) as well as assemble four weeks of Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Packs (AKA CHIPP™).

Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated invite you (open to the public) to join us as we meet with legislators to advocate for state and local legislation focused on black maternal mental health.

Maternal mental health conditions are among the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths. This challenge is most acute for low-income and minority families. From 2006-2017, suicidal ideation and intentional self-harm increased significantly for Black birthing people during their pregnancies and up to one year postpartum. Overall, while maternal mortality rates fell 44% around the world from 1990-2015, maternal mortality in the United States increased by 16.7%, making the United States the only developed country with a rising maternal mortality rate.
